At the fictional fascist labour camp I work:
- Employees are not permitted to discuss their employer, except to say how wonderful it is
- The organisation employs over 6000 people in 20 labour camps
- There are over 130 departments in just 1 site alone
- A minimum of 10 people per week leave employment
- HR actively contrive to be rid of a minimum 20 staff per week
- HR trains managers in how to "encourage" staff to leave
- Most of the staff that stay are given a pay cut to further encourage their departure
- Vacant positions are reclassified and filled at a lower pay rate
- HR staff and managers get promoted for achieving targets
- Today 3 directors, 20 managers and 40 staff had their jobs advertised
- Job advertisements are placed daily
- In excess of 2000 staffing changes occur per year
- Your current manager has to approve your transfer out to another dept
- My manager told me he wants to get rid of me (not transfer me)
- HR & my manager failed to terminate me
- I was replaced by 9 unskilled staff (but am still employed at the same pay rate)

2020 Onwards + Upwards
I have finally found an OS/browser combo that actually works with DA (sort of) since their "upgrades". So it's linux and a fork of firefox that finally let me use the DA site again. As long as I use the old UI I can get around. No frilly bits like inserting emoticons or art, just the basics, but at least it's something. I will just flutter on thru . . . until I have something to say.
Aussie Hopping Mouse
Yup, the Americans stole the term "Kangaroo Mouse"
so the genuine article has to be referred to as the
"Hopping Mouse"
Yesterday I was pottering about my greenhouse
and out of the corner of my eye
I noticed something
like speedy gonzales
bouncing from pot to pot.
Probably not a
kultarr
or an Australian Hopping Mouse,
since most of them are extinct,
or on the edge of extinction,
and I don't live in a true desert,
although with the drought,
it feels like it.
But it was pale, almost pinky brown,
half-mouse sized and
hopped,
very fast.
I am only about 400km from where they used to range
back when homesteading was legal
in Oz
Life is still like that in Aug 2019
Life for me lurches on from one dilemma to the next,
sometimes without a moment to blink.
My VPS provider closed without notice.
My ISP is cancelling my subsciption
because the plan is too cheap.
Their cheapest plan is now double what I currently pay.
The mobile phone provider won't give me an account
because I like to pre-pay
rather than post-pay.
The fencing contractor I hired
fell off the face of the planet
after demolishing 25% of my old fence.
And, lifes general niggles and frustrations,
like having cancer again,
continue to bug me.
My April Fools Day 2019
I woke up with a stick of cheese in my ear.
