At university when I studied Business Management,
I learnt the business structures,
processes and procedures to empower employees
to keep them happy and motivated to produce their best work.
We undertook case studies,
also live simulations
and thesis placements in real businesses
in order to practice and develop our skills.
After graduation
I was happy
that the knowledge and skills
I had learnt
proved to be accurate and fruitful
to both the employers and my career.
Time has moved on
and in todays Australian workplace
tertiary qualifications and experience
are far less favored than trade (vendor) qualifications.
So for example,
an employee with an IT degree
has less chance of gettng a job
than say someone with a microsoft or cisco certificate.
That is just the reality of the modern Australian job market.
Unfortunately that same corporate attitude
has managed to permeate down through its management structure
expressing itself as the diametrically opposite business processes,
procedures, attitudes and practice
that I was first taught at university.
I recently had a conversation with a fellow employee
who had won a court case
against this employer
for a very similar issue that had recently occurred to me:
as documented in my prior journal entries.
This conversation revealed what I had only just come to suspect.
But, it is far worse than I had previously imagined.
I am so naive.
The corporate structures that are supposed to support and help the employee
have instead, unbeknowst to the employee,
been covertly co-opted to control and disenfranchise employees.
The workplace has become a paradise of indentured servitude.
No more empowering the employee.
No more positive motivation.
All the corporate structures meant to help the employee
have instead become covert channels to subdue and subjugate.
So you ask, what do I mean by this?
It turns out that the free counseling,
OH&S support and all conversations with HR
are in fact the sources of intelligence
that the employer uses in court against you.
All those parties ensure that the documentation
of all your contact with them
is attenuated in such a way
as to make you
seem to be the perfidious cause of the issue
and not the victim.
Even the independent workplace employee support person
is on the committee that covers up and manages employee issues.
The entire employee support system has been parasitised.
I cannot express how disappointed I am
to learn at how corrupt
the Human Resources and Business Management fields
have become in this workplace.
HR staff even get promotions based on subjugations;
although I am sure they call it something more politically correct.
I have been so naive.
2020 Onwards + Upwards
I have finally found an OS/browser combo that actually works with DA (sort of) since their "upgrades". So it's linux and a fork of firefox that finally let me use the DA site again. As long as I use the old UI I can get around. No frilly bits like inserting emoticons or art, just the basics, but at least it's something. I will just flutter on thru . . . until I have something to say.
Aussie Hopping Mouse
Yup, the Americans stole the term "Kangaroo Mouse"
so the genuine article has to be referred to as the
"Hopping Mouse"
Yesterday I was pottering about my greenhouse
and out of the corner of my eye
I noticed something
like speedy gonzales
bouncing from pot to pot.
Probably not a
kultarr
or an Australian Hopping Mouse,
since most of them are extinct,
or on the edge of extinction,
and I don't live in a true desert,
although with the drought,
it feels like it.
But it was pale, almost pinky brown,
half-mouse sized and
hopped,
very fast.
I am only about 400km from where they used to range
back when homesteading was legal
in Oz
Life is still like that in Aug 2019
Life for me lurches on from one dilemma to the next,
sometimes without a moment to blink.
My VPS provider closed without notice.
My ISP is cancelling my subsciption
because the plan is too cheap.
Their cheapest plan is now double what I currently pay.
The mobile phone provider won't give me an account
because I like to pre-pay
rather than post-pay.
The fencing contractor I hired
fell off the face of the planet
after demolishing 25% of my old fence.
And, lifes general niggles and frustrations,
like having cancer again,
continue to bug me.
My April Fools Day 2019
I woke up with a stick of cheese in my ear.
